About Longmont
Longmont – Located within Boulder County, Longmont is a city of twenty-two square miles, over three-hundred days of sunshine, and a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountains. The town was founded in 1871 when members of the “Chicago Colorado Colony” bought fifty-thousand acres along the St. Vrain River, directly east of 14,256 foot high Long’s Peak. Longmont soon became a hub for farming activities like sugar beets, alfalfa, beans, potatoes, and peas.
Today Longmont is the second largest city in Boulder County with a population of over sixty-two thousand. While the “Old Town” area is still a popular place to live, there are also lots of new subdivisions to fit the needs of the burgeoning population.
Longmont is in the heart of Colorado’s Technological Corridor and draws many start-up companies as well as serving as home to large, established businesses. It is also favored for its proximity to the University of Colorado. The city is conveniently located thirty-seven miles from Denver, sixteen miles from Boulder, and thirty miles from the scenic Trail Ridge Road.
