About Lafayette

Lafayette – Lafayette began as a small coal mining town that sprouted up during the late 1800s when Mary Elizabeth Miller and her husband first mined the land. In 1868 they produced 1000 tons of coal a day from two mine shafts they dug on their 240 acre property. The town was formed in 1890, is eleven miles from Boulder, and covers 8.3 square miles.

The city has experienced rapid growth in recent years, with a current population of more than 23,000 and boasts several shopping centers, industrial and business parks, residential subdivisions, library, recreation center, and the 18-hole Indian Peaks golf course. With a rich cultural heritage, unique neighborhoods, a vibrant economy, and easy access to an active lifestyle, Lafayette is a community that cherishes its distinct hometown feeling.
